This is a part-time instructor pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on need. The Environmental Learning Center at Clackamas Community College provides our community with several education opportunities and courses including the following:
- K-12 Field Trips
- Livestream programs
- Nature Spy Camps
- Nature Spy Explorer Kits
- Nature Striders Preschool programs
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Job functions will vary depending on the program a person is placed into, but may include the following:
- Lead groups of children on nature-based field trips at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC).
- Lead day camp activities at the ELC.
- Deliver engaging outdoor lessons via Livestream from the ELC.
- Engage with children in a safe, welcoming and engaging manner.
- Interact with parents and teachers in a professional manner.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.

MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. This includes experience leading outdoor education for children.
Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES:
Background check will be required at time of hire.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the natural world.
SKILL:
Skilled in outdoor youth education: stimulating the imagination, encouraging a fun & enriching experience, conveying key concepts, establishing behavior expectations.
ABILITIES:
Ability to work with large groups of children in an outdoor setting, and to coordinate with other staff; communicate effectively with staff, families, teachers and children; physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
:
Degree in Environmental Science/Education or related field.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will spend time in both the outdoor environment and in the classroom. Teaching in the natural environment may require working in hot, cold or wet conditions.
The position requires limited (0-20%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Occasional (21-75% of the time) use of office equipment.
The position requires some (40-80%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require continual speed, agility, hand eye coordination, equipment operation and walking in the outdoors.
The work environment is protected with only some occasional hazards or obstacles (20-40%). There is a moderately low level of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are occasionally uncomfortable, with moderate (20-40%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have some responsibility for driving.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Education Program Manager, Environmental Learning Center.
