Assistant Professor, Departments of Physics and Biology
Georgetown University: Main Campus: College of Arts & Sciences: Physics
Location: Washington, DC
Open Date: Sep 10, 2024
Deadline: Aug 01, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description
Georgetown University seeks to hire a Biological Physicist for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2025. This appointment will be joint between the Departments of Physics and Biology. Individuals whose research focuses on cell structures and processes, biomolecular dynamics and interactions, or nanotechnology are of particular interest, although we are open to a wide range of research topics and approaches.
We seek an outstanding colleague who will lead a dynamic research program and contribute to the teaching and mentoring of talented undergraduate and graduate students. We are interested in individuals with bold ideas who bring disciplinary expertise and who welcome opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration to work on foundational or applied challenges. Research collaborations already flourish between our departments, and this position will strengthen these interactions.
The successful applicant will join a vibrant research community within our departments and regionally; our location facilitates collaboration with labs at the Georgetown University Medical Center, other universities, research institutes, and federal agencies (NIH, NIST, FDA) in the greater Washington, DC area. We take pride in our educational programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and individuals with a genuine interest in teaching and mentoring will find a supportive community both within our department and across the university. Candidates are expected to have trained for two or more years in a post-doctoral position in a related field; prior teaching and mentoring experience is a plus. Our departments welcome, celebrate, and support diversity in all forms. Our vibrant differences strengthen us as scientists, individuals, and a community.
