Position No. 52610. The Department of Biological Sciences in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University plans to fill multiple junior faculty positions in the next several years, and currently is inviting applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending on the applicant's credentials. Southern Methodist University is a nationally ranked, research intensive, non-sectarian, private university centrally located in the thriving Dallas metroplex, which boasts a rapidly expanding biotech sector.
This Tenure-Track position comes with a generous start-up package that includes lab space in the Dedman Life Sciences Building, protected time for the establishment of an independent research program, and mentorship by collegial and supportive faculty whose research is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), and private biotech grants. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program, mentor master's and doctoral students in the Molecular and Cellular Biology graduate program, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching. This Biology faculty position is part of a multi-faculty hire at SMU that represents an ambitious program to develop large-scale collaborative research projects responding to some of humankind's most daunting challenges including health-related problems. It is one of multiple positions allocated to a cluster hire in Data Science. The new Biology faculty member will be expected to establish successful collaborations with the other hires in the Health Analytics and Data Core groups that can help identify, understand, and control the burden of health-related challenges.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the position must have a PhD degree, postdoctoral experience, and a record of research excellence. Preference will be given to individuals with research interests that broadly complement existing faculty research in the areas of neuroscience, immunology, cancer, cell biology or signaling, developmental biology, cytoskeletal or mitochondrial dynamics, epigenetics, biochemistry, or infectious diseases.
