Job Summary:
USF's Master of Science in Environmental Management develops students' skills to provide science-based management strategies for the environmental challenges the world faces, from stabilizing global climate to ensuring equitable access to clean air and water. Our interdisciplinary program helps students advance their careers in environmental agencies, consulting firms, industry, and nonprofit organizations.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Strategic Initiatives, the Program Manager for MS in Environmental Management is responsible for student recruiting, marketing and admissions, administrative and academic support, and enhancing the student experience. In consultation with the Academic Director, and associated staff and faculty, the Program Manager will work to maintain, improve and create new graduate program initiatives and create a sense of cohesive community support between the programs and their students.

Job Responsibilities

Recruitment and Admissions
  • Plan, manage and execute the recruitment and admissions process, from prospect to matriculation to graduation, in collaboration with the CAS Office of Graduate Admissions and the Academic Directors. This includes but is not limited to supporting prospects in the application process, reviewing admission applications and participating in admission decisions.
  • Cultivate relationships and counsel all prospects, applicants, and admitted students on content of the curriculum, prerequisites, and all matters related to their application status.
  • Develop and execute an annual marketing and communications plan for the program,, including communications media for digital ads, in coordination with the Office of Graduate Admissions and the Office of Marketing and Communications.
  • Manage and develop the program's communications and publications. This includes websites, newsletters and other communications including social media for the programs.
  • Respond to requests for information from prospective students, media, and potential donors. Oversee the program's contact management system.
  • Plan and execute online and in-person recruiting events, such as webinars, information sessions and open houses.
  • Plan and execute seminars and other public events, in coordination with the Program Director and Program Assistant.
  • Supervise the application process, review all admission applications and participate in admission and scholarship award decisions, and communicate final decisions regarding application to the programs.
  • Manage the admissions deposit and registration processes and forecast deposit rate and admission yield, including inputting, revising, and maintaining data for the application and admission process.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations like alumni groups, community organizations, and other individuals in relevant sectors to facilitate student recruitment and students' professional development.


Academic/Student Support
  • Organize annual orientation sessions for newly admitted students as well as monthly workshops, and other academic support activities and events for graduate students.
  • Facilitate and plan the academic advising process in conjunction with the Program Director, and ensure the smooth administration of student registration.
  • Facilitate student success, including organizing student academic and professional growth events, monitoring the academic progress of students, organizing student-centered events, and managing degree completion process.
  • Provide, in conjunction with the Program Assistant, administrative support for student-centered events, academic symposia and related activities.
  • Plan and execute extracurricular and social activities that nurture a sense of belonging and community within and across cohorts, between programs, and with alumni.
  • Facilitates a first semester check-in meeting with all first year cohorts to begin assessing needs.
  • Work with the Program Director to coordinate internships and research opportunities, and support students with the hiring process.
  • Manage alumni employment data and statistics and work with the Director on programmatic alumni engagement including communications and events.
  • Act as a resource person/liaison between and among faculty, students, and the University community, as well as members of the public.
  • Provide administrative leadership for the development of industry partnerships that benefit MSEM students and faculty, including supporting events and communicating with industry and community based organizations.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus (Student Enrollment Services, Student Employment, ISSS, SLE, CAPS) to ensure that resources are available and delivered appropriately to graduate students and faculty.
  • Support development initiatives by drafting reports and stewardship materials.
  • Support the activities of the curriculum assessment committee by disseminating information to faculty and participating in data collection.


Other Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the University Graduate Admission Council and attend College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Program Directors meetings.
  • Lead student-driven Media & Communications team to develop written and social media content about the MSEM program and environmental topics.
  • Manage program budgets, including assisting with scholarship allocations.
  • Collaborate with the Program Assistant.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant areas required. Master's degree or professional experience in the environmental field or in science education preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience with educational program administration, or other similar program/project management that includes recruiting and data/operations is required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with students from a diverse array of backgrounds, including experience working with graduate students.
  • Ability to spearhead large projects and see them through to completion.
  • Ability to understand and maintain budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (word processing, database systems, graphic design, and web maintenance skills).
  • Experience with strategic branding, national, and international marketing.
  • Ability to travel locally to recruitment fairs and to participate in occasional events in the evenings and weekends to service graduate student events.
  • Strong equity lens, cultural humility, and proven ability to work well in a diverse context.
  • Understanding and commitment to USF's mission, vision, and values.
  • This is primarily an in person position at USF's Hilltop campus in San Francisco, with the option to work 1-2 days remotely per week when scheduling permits.

Salary Range :
$74,500-$84,500 annualized; commensurate with experience.
