We seek applicants broadly trained in either the earth or life sciences, with expertise in one or more fields such as: geology, meteorology, marine science, ecology, wildlife biology, or conservation science. Candidates across a wide array of disciplines within earth and life sciences are encouraged to apply, however applicants must have familiarity with methodological applications of GIS in either their research or teaching. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to (1) enrich interdisciplinary offerings on campus through courses; and (2) thrive in an undergraduate program within a small private liberal arts university, where excellence in teaching and advising is highly valued. The successful applicant will have the ability to teach some combination of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in their area of specialty, as well as intermediate and advanced courses in which students are coached to complete an applied project in environmental analysis using GIS. The department will value applicants who have experience working with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting diverse student populations to accomplish curricular goals. The teaching load is 6 courses per year. One of those courses may be a travel course or field-intensive course offered during our month-long May term.

The University of Redlands is an independent, private university with strong roots in liberal arts education. As a Hispanic Serving Institution, with 40% of our student body composed of first-generation students, we believe that bringing together faculty, students, and staff from diverse cultural and/or socio-economic backgrounds creates a richer learning environment. The University also has a strong commitment to community service learning. The Department of Environmental Studies offers majors in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, and Sustainable Business as well as serving the general education program of the College of Arts and Sciences. Experiential learning, collaborative learning, and faculty-student interaction are highly valued in this close-knit academic community. See www.redlands.edu for more information.
