Department Information
Within this setting, the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability (SEES) is actively engaged in both undergraduate and graduate education, research and service. The School represents the combined efforts of the Department of Geology and Geography that now include the B.S. in Geosciences (concentrations in geology and geography) and the Institute for Coastal Plain Science, along with the rapidly growing B.S. in Sustainability Science, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Science. In addition to being a significant player in the development of interdisciplinary sustainability and environmental degree programs, SEES is a substantial contributor to Georgia Southern's Coastal Resilience Research Impact Area and is expected to be an integral component of environmental and sustainability teaching and research initiatives currently under development at the Wexford campus in Ireland. To this end, the individual hired to fill this advertised position will be expected to help contribute to the expanding role of SEES in both teaching and research.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Dean, the Chair's workload distribution includes teaching (20%), maintaining an active research agenda (20%), participating in disciplinary and university service (10%), and administration of all aspects of the School (50%). The position is fiscal year, 12- month appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate in environmental science, geology, geography, geosciences, sustainability science, or a closely related discipline including 18 graduate semester hours in any of these areas,
A record of academic accomplishment commensurate with the rank of professor with tenure, exemplified by research that has been broadly validated and externally funded, and a minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the associate professor level.
Experience working with or mentoring PhD Students.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Potential to further enrich the existing research profile of the School, as well as a clear plan for a continued research program that can be sustained within the workload parameters of the Chair's position.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development. Candidates should provide evidence of a commitment to fostering and valuing excellence in teaching with a focus on evidence-based practices among all faculty in support of student success.

Preferred Qualifications
Commitment to and evidence of ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of constituencies across multiple campuses including faculty, staff, university administration and the public to promote School goals and advocate for School priorities.
Commitment to and evidence of potential to equitably evaluate and support advancement of all faculty and staff from across an array ranks of sub disciplines in the School .
Minimum of 2 years of administrative experience (e.g., as department chair, associate chair, assistant dean, graduate program coordinator etc.)
Evidence of academic leadership experience and accomplishments that demonstrate the potential for effective communication, resource management and allocation, supervision of personnel, conflict resolution while fostering a positive work environment, and program development and assessment.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
